Shifting Platforms are a point of interest in the game and they appear in multiple levels aiding, and sometimes hindering, Thomas and the others.

Appearance[]

Shifting Platforms are constructed out of the same black material as normal platforms and staircases. The only difference is that these platforms move, often in a patterned motion. Some shifting platforms are anchored to the ground, ceiling, or walls while many are free floating.

Movement[]

Shifting platforms have more freedom than rising platforms or lowering platforms. Shifting platforms can move up, down, left, right, or in all four directions. Characters ride on free floating shifting platforms to cross toxic water, spikes, or other obstacles. They are also used to reached different locations of the level as well, and even ride straight into the portal. Some shifting platforms move slowly while others tend to move quickly. Despite their speed, shifting platforms usually have a rhythmic pattern of movement.

Special Shifting Platforms[]

Throughout the game, there are different types of shifting platforms that the characters encounter and require a different approach than that of the one used for normal shifting platforms.

Inactive Shifting Platforms[]

Some shifting platform require the use of a button or colored button to activate. These shifting platforms often only move once and do not move again.

Inverted Shifting Platforms[]

These types of shifting platforms are usually only for James' use, but can occasionally serve both James and the others who use normal gravity as an ordinary shifting platform. They allow James to progress further in his parts of a certain level.

Spiked Shifting Platforms[]

These shifting platforms are hazardous as they have spikes attached to them. If Thomas, Chris and the others are not careful, these shifting platforms move into the character and kill them upon contact. These can be avoided by using simple timing.
